Participatory governance aims to involve citizens, politicians, social work professionals and associations in local political decisions and in associative or institutional projects. Promoting inclusion and social cohesion, this innovative approach encourages involvement in the life of a municipality, association or institution, in various forms.
This course is held by the University of Lausanne (UNIL), the Haute Ecole de Travail Social (HETSL) de Lausanne and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Western Switzerland (HES-SO), with the Formation continue UNIL-EPFL.
The course aims to
- Acquire a solid grounding in participatory governance at local level, and grasp the issues involved
- Develop the methodological knowledge and skills needed to set up local participatory projects
- Familiarise themselves with innovative tools specific to intervention in the field of participatory action
- Gain a better understanding of the role and resources of each of the stakeholders - public administration and social work professionals, associations and citizens - involved in participatory projects and processes.
- To develop an interdisciplinary network of professionals working on local participatory projects.
Target group: Professionals in public administration (municipalities, cantons), social workers or other professionals interested in participatory approaches.

Course period: from October 2024 to March 2026
Registration deadline: 30 May 2024.
Location: The course will be held on the UNIL-EPFL campus and will also include field visits.
