JOM 2024 - 19 boys discover the inclusion of gender in research

18/11/2024

On Thursday 14 November 2024, the LIVES Centre welcomed around twenty enthusiastic boys from 10 to 13 years old to take part in the workshop "Integrating gender into research - For fairer results". Organised as part of the Journée Osez tous les Métiers (JOM) or Futur en tous genres event, the aim of this activity was to raise awareness among young boys of the need to conduct research that takes all population groups into account.

Over the course of a morning, the students took on the role of social science researchers and reflected on the well-being of everyone in the school context: the classroom, the schoolyard, interpersonal relationships. At the end of the workshop, the facilitator showed a number of examples of research carried out solely on men and the sometimes serious consequences for women.

Since 2000, the Journée Osez tous les métiers event has been encouraging children to find out about the job of a parent of the opposite sex, in order to combat gender stereotypes in career choices and encourage gender diversity in different professional fields and hierarchical functions. In 2024, more than 21,000 pupils took part. The next JOM will be held on Thursday 13 November 2025.
